Appian, a global leader in enterprise technology, expanded its Northern Virginia presence by establishing a new 200,000 RSF headquarters in Tysons, VA—a move that supported the creation of 600 new jobs.
The finished space occupied eight floors in the North Tower of Valo Park, all connected by a dramatic interconnecting staircase that serves as the architectural spine of the workspace.
Appian’s leadership sought to shift from a traditional, enclosed office layout to an environment that encouraged openness, communication, and cross‑team collaboration—while still preserving individual privacy. The resulting design blended these priorities through a mix of open work areas, touchdown spaces, and huddle rooms, all wrapped in a warm, residential‑inspired aesthetic and bold brand expression. Signature elements included a full‑height decorative concrete wall along the staircase and a top‑floor atrium with a mezzanine level that created a dynamic space for senior leadership.
Fletcher Consulting played a key role on the project management team, helping navigate the complexities of an eight‑floor buildout, requiring challenging County approvals, and ensuring the client’s vision was delivered with precision. The result set the stage for Appian’s continued growth.
